THE INDIAN AIR FORCE

Established in 1932, the IAF has now more than a lakh airlines with squadrons of MIG, JAGUAR, SU 30K, MIRAGE, CANBERRA, AN32, IL-76, Mi helicopters etc., and is responsible for air defence, air interdiction, reconnaissance and offensive air support. It has risen on a number of occassions of calamities to help stranded and harmed people during floods; helpless mountaineers trapped in harsh and adverse surroundings and made other life-saving missions. IAF oprates an efficient and planned air defence network comprising of sophisticated range of front lime aircrafts, missiles, radar and electronic warfare systems, electronic counter measure. IAF has developed creditable infrastructure for overhauling its aircrafts and ground systems to ensure reliability and maintainability with full preparedness.

IAF has undertaken various challenging projects, like upgradation, acquisition and induction of many multi-role capability aircrafts/helicopters with night vision devices; integration of combat, transport and helicopter units with GPS; development of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), Electronic Warfare systems, Air Defence Systems, Integrated Guided Missile Programme, state-of-the art Communication systems and Digital Mobile Tropo Terminals (DMTT) etc. for close air support operations.
